Exmouth RNLI held their Annual General Meeting on Monday, 24th May at Exe Sailing Club. After reports were read out on the successful fundraising carried out over the past year by the Guild and the RNLI Shop, the Operations team made two further announcements.
Firstly, the new boathouse opening ceremony date is now fixed for September 4th 2010 and secondly to welcome the new Lifeboat Management Group (LMG) Chairman, Timothy John Baker.
Tim, married with two grown up children, lives in Topsham and was until January 2010 Commodore of the Topsham Sailing Club. He takes on the role of LMG chairman after the sad death of the previous chairman Martin Taylor last year. Tim said; “Following the sad loss of Martin, I was recently approached to ask if I would like to take on the role. The RNLI is a splendid organisation and one I am more than happy to support and one I hope to never need to call upon professionally.”
He added: “It gives me great pleasure to announce that on the 4th September 2010 we’ll be having the formal opening of the wonderful new boathouse and the rededication of the all weather lifeboat. It’s been a huge community effort to raise more than two million pounds needed to get the boathouse built and that money has come from every sector of the community. I think it’s a wonderful celebration that we’ve been able to raise this money and it’s entirely appropriate that we have a proper and formal ceremony for it.”
Adrian Carey, RNLI Divisional Inspector for the South gave a presentation at the meeting and commented; “As usual I had a wonderful reception at Exmouth RNLI and my thanks go to all the volunteers in whatever role they are. It’s great to welcome Timothy as the new chairman, taking things forward for the opening ceremony in September.”
The evening finished off with a Sea Safety talk and a light hearted role playing scenario involving four volunteers from the audience re-enacting what safety measures they would take if their boat was sinking.
Further details on the opening ceremony will be issued nearer the date.
